In the 21st century of globalization, the relationship between Korea and Japan has become unprecedentedly wide-open and complex. The Department of Japanese Studies, founded in 1998, strives to keep abreast of the countries’ current issues. Since Japan is geographically close to Korea, it has been intimately interconnected with Korea in both positive and negative ways throughout history. Still today there are issues remaining between the two countries, and occasional disagreements are anticipated. The Department is putting forth effort to foster positive and active women-leaders who are qualified to handle these bilateral problems and work for improved future relations.
Purpose of the Education
The education purpose of the Department of Japan Studies is the foster the professional womanpower for the Japan area with the whole and balanced knowledge on japan through synthesized understanding on the history, thought, economy, society, etc. of Japan.
Japan is often said to be a close but distant country. Two countries are full of confrontation and hostility bound up by the misfortunate history in the past. However, the world is one global town recently in which both countries cannot exist together unless assisting and cooperating with each other. Japan is a close neighbor to cooperate together for mutual prosperity as well as the object to watch out. That is why, the research on Japan must be performed correctly and thoroughly in diverse directions as a matter of course.
Therefore, the goal of the department is
- fostering the talent who can contribute to the friendship and cooperation relationship of both countries widely by knowing and understanding Japan accurately.
- Discharge the professional womanpower who can take positive and active measures on all sorts of issues arising frequently between two countries, as both countries are adjacent geographically.
- Ensure the proficiency of Japanese language to achieve above goal.
