Student Leadership Groups
The Sookmyung Leadership Group is where students share the vision of Sookmyung Leadership by exhibiting and training leadership by themselves. This unique student training program nurtures 21st century global participants. Through the activities in these groups, students will learn how to care for and serve others, and will raise their ability as active leaders.
Faculty Cafeteria
Since 1999, Sookmyung Student Ambassadors have planned and supported over 150 indoor and outdoor events each school year. Sookmyung Student Ambassadors is one of the shining examples of the spirit of Sookmyung's leadership. The members have provided outstanding volunteer service as university tour guides, 2002 World-cup VIP assistants, 2003 Universidad volunteers, and ongoing community service volunteers.
Sookmyung Interpretation Volunteers
Sookmyung Interpretation Volunteers (SMIV) provide professional level language services through student interpreters with language proficiency in one of five languages (English, Chinese, French, German, and Japanese). As the only such university-based interpretation group in Korea, SMIV is now well-known for its expertise in interpretation service and its active involvement in national and international events, such as conferences, forums, and government-sponsored programs. SMIV has provided interpretation for the 2005 Busan APEC conference, the opening ceremony of the National Museum of Korea, the 2006 Sookmyung Leadership Forum, and other important events.
Sookmyung TM Volunteers
As a messenger connecting Sookmyung with its alumni, TM volunteers deliver the progress of Sookmyung and promote fundraising activities to alumni. With love and dedication for the school, TM volunteers support Sookmyung's Homecoming day, the Senior Alumni Festival, and the Finding Alumni Program.
Sookmyung Knowledge Volunteers
With its vision of serving the community by delivering co-operative knowledge and college culture, Sookmyung Knowledge Volunteers (SKV) provide basic educational opportunities for the underprivileged by running after-school classes at four different locations in YongSan-Gu. Through these classes, SKV aims to help local children achieve their dreams.
Sookmyung Environment Volunteers: Green Snow
Empowered by the spirit of service and a deep awareness of environmental issues, the University has organized Green Snow, a group of students who are committed to preserving and educating others about our natural environment. By leading environmental activities such as the Green Day Movement, Sookmyung Environmental Volunteers actively and systematically participate in monitoring all kinds of ecological issues on- and off-campus.
SIWA (Sookmyung International Women's Association)
The SIWA is the only overseas volunteer group among the leadership groups on campus. It participates in the Rainbow Camp held at Albany, New York every year and operates programs showcasing our traditional culture to adopted Korean children. Members of the group promote Korean culture and cultivate service and leadership by planning and executing original programs for adopted children. Their goal is to raise global leaders as well as the profile of Sookmyung Leadership.
Sookmyung Cultural Volunteers
Our university provides various arts and culture activities to the campus and local community and is helping to build a healthy cultural infrastructure. The Sookmyung Cultural Volunteers provide Docent services for exhibitions in the Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum and the Sookmyung Women's University Museum. Volunteers help students and locals as well as visitors from outside the country to see the museum by offering guided tours in Korean and English. In addition, they support various exhibitions held at the museums of our university.
Sookmyung Communicators
The Sookmyung Communicators is a leadership group that keeps faculty, students and future Sookmyung members abreast of the changing vision and policies of our university and helps to facilitate communication and promotion of the University. Among its publications are the promotional email magazine 'Blue Letter,' 'Snow Letter' for university employees, 'TEENS SOOKMYUNG' for high school students and 'Bravo! Sookmyung' which contains messages for people in various fields of society. And they also serve as writers for various in-campus events and promotional materials.
IVY Sookmyung
IVYS is a student volunteer group that offers support in employment and career management while striving to create a human network based on Sookmyung values of empowerment and service-mindedness. IVYS provides employment information through academic workshops, special employment lectures and publishing the bi-weekly on-line employment letter 'Design Your Career.' They also aid in employment preparation and training as well as play a role in cultivating career development and management knowledge.
2Win.Sookmyung
2Wins is a leadership group consisting of mentors and mentees in the 'Sookmyung Mentor Program' whose goal is to foster win-win scenarios among member students. 2Wins consists of the Mentoring Letter Team and the Mentoring Management Team and is responsible under the objectives of the Sookmyung Mentor Program for managing various activities related to the Mentor Program such as sending out monthly mentoring letters and general support for the growth of the Mentor Program.
Sookmyung Academic Affairs Monitor
The Sookmyung Academic Affairs Monitor is a leadership group that acts to reflect students' opinions in curriculum development by surveying academic affairs-related suggestions and inconveniences. By monitoring the academic affairs system and its operation according to students' point of view, the group plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of the university experience by providing accurate information about the academic affairs system to students in their respective majors and collecting and expressing various student opinions.
Student Service Monitor
The Student Service Monitor is a leadership group in charge of counseling about student life, issuing various certificates and conducting customer satisfaction surveys. It helps the Student Service Center offer more useful services by actively soliciting students' opinions and publishing the monthly student service letter enabling Sookmyung students to experience the function and services of the Student Service Center more directly. In addition, it regularly monitors the Q&A section of the University homepage.
Chung
Chung is a discussion volunteer group consisting of semi-finalists from the previous Sookmyung Debate Contest. As its name would indicate, 'Chung' promotes the theme of deep listening and understanding the importance of 'listening' over 'talking' in discussion. The group works in activities to develop, fix, and expand the discussion culture of Sookmyung. While working as helpers for students taking the 'Presentation and Discussion' class, it also plays an active role in outside activities such as offering support for national-level debate contests.
Sookmyung Cyber Safeguardians
S.C.S is a student service group that continuously monitors University-related information in cyber space, helping to publicize our university and promoting the brand image of Sookmyung. S.C.S works diligently to evaluate University-related news in detail and to regulate the stream of information related to our university on the web. Its efforts aimed to positively publicize our university by promoting pride and love for our university.
Sookmyung Polaris
Sookmyung Polaris is a student service group in charge of recruiting, providing prospective students with general information about entering the university, helping them find information about our university, and offering directions. It not only provides counseling through the Admission Information Center, it also manages admission presentations by visiting high-schools directly. Other various admission related activities include writing and interview test date activities and preliminary university programs.
Sookmyung Scholarship Student Volunteers
The Sookmyung Scholarship Student Volunteers are comprised of service-minded scholarship students who demonstrate character and leadership. Through the process of surveying and analyzing the establishment and activity patterns of the various scholarship foundations, they provide useful information to Sookmyung students and contribute to reforming the university donation culture movement. In addition, they actively participate in volunteer activities for disabled people and work to create a close-knit community culture.
SMARTeer
SMARTeer is a volunteer group that helps Sookmyung students use the library comfortably and conveniently and to efficiently peruse its resources. It guides students in observing appropriate etiquette in the library and cultivates service-leadership based on consideration for others. Outside of Sookmyung's campus, SMARTeer is engaged in teaching students at the Sunlin Middle School Learning Information Center how to use their library, also highlighting Sookmyung's community efforts.
Sookmyung Samsung Medical Volunteers-SSMV
SSMV was first established in support of the University's centennial celebration and now serves in the medical field beyond the walls of the university. It plans to expand its activities to include various health programs and volunteer activities at the Samsung Seoul Hospital. These activities help to bring recognition to the role of medical service, while exemplifying Sookmyung's leadership motto 'Gentle Power to Change the World.'
Sookmyung Korean Language Education Volunteers
The Sookmyung Korean Language Education Volunteers offer free Korean language classes and promote Korean language and culture to the world. In addition, they aim to establish and strengthen the image of 'Sookmyung Leadership' to the outside world by producing Korean Language Education Leaders who will lead the Korean language education of the next generation.
Sookmyung Leadership Letter Team
The Sookmyung Leadership Letter Team, under the objective of expanding Sookmyung Leadership Culture, works to provide necessary information on line to be grown as leaders for all Sookmyung students by introducing the leadership and providing detailed cases and action plans. It sends out the Sookmyung Leadership Letter twice a month to all Sookmyung family in and out of the campus on line and promotes their interests in leadership. What is more, through management of the Sookmyung Leadership Group Homepage, it works to activate the leadership groups and for effective cooperation and exchange among them to create synergy effects.
IT's U
IT's U consists of loyal and enthusiastic IT experts from among Sookmyung's student body. Each member of IT's U aims to contribute to Sookmyung's ubiquitous campus by participating in the planning and design phases to create a more user-oriented IT service. Members also serve as IT leaders by monitoring and sharing useful IT information.
ABLE (A Bridge of Leadership Energy)
Sookmyung ABLE, under the objective of spreading Sookmyung Leadership culture, offers an ongoing leadership discourse through detailed case-study and practice methods. It is responsible for the bi-weekly on-line Sookmyung Leadership Letter to help students cultivate self-leadership and service-leadership and to create the momentum for them to put these into practice. Through management of the Sookmyung Leadership Group homepage, ABLE also contributes to the effective cooperation and exchange among other on-campus leadership groups. ABLE plans to furthermore promote regular exhibitions and special projects relating to leadership.
The Centennial Commemoration Volunteer Group
The Centennial Commemoration Volunteer Group was a student volunteer group which worked as a bridge for students to participate in the Centennial Commemorating Project and contributed to its overall success through participating in planning, administration, public relations and event support roles for the Project.
Envoy (Enlighten Vision of Yours)
Envoy is a trainee group of the 'Sookmyung Summer US Leadership Training' program held during each summer vacation. Based on their experiences from this training, members operate the 'Sookmyung Leadership Program' for high school girls in rural areas and contribute to the spreading of Sookmyung Leadership and the nurturing of next-generation female leaders. The group further serves to publicize Korean culture and Sookmyung Leadership though events like 'Korean Night' during their overseas training as global ambassadors.
