On April 16, President Moon Si Yeun officially visited Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia—the world’s largest women’s university—and held a meeting with President Einas S. AlEisa.

During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on various avenues for international cooperation, including cultural exchanges centered on the Korean Wave (Hallyu) and the implementation of short-term visit programs. The collaboration between the two universities is expected to provide a strong foundation for enhancing the quality of women's higher education and nurturing global women leaders.

PNU is a public university established in 1970 by the Saudi royal family to promote women’s higher education. It began its major expansion in 2004 when six women’s colleges in Riyadh were merged. Currently, PNU has approximately 34,000 enrolled students and boasts a campus area about 2.7 times the size of Yeoui-do in Seoul, securing its status as the largest women’s university in the world.

Our university has maintained a close relationship with PNU through several joint projects in the past. From 2014 to 2016, we collaborated on initiatives such as the “Student Services Center Program Enhancement Project” and a “Consulting Project for the Academic Structure of PNU’s College of Fine Arts,” sharing our advanced educational administration systems to help lay the institutional groundwork for women’s higher education at PNU.

On the same day, President Moon also visited the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Saudi Arabia and held a meeting with Deputy Ambassador Moon Byung-jun. They exchanged views on educational and cultural cooperation between our university and major Saudi institutions of higher education.

Deputy Ambassador Moon expressed strong interest in the university’s active educational diplomacy efforts in the Middle East and conveyed his hopes for meaningful outcomes through embassy-level support and collaboration.
