Jeong Choon-hee, Chair of the Sookmyung Development Committee for the 120th Anniversary Commemorative Project, has donated KRW 500 million to the “Proud Sookmyung 120” fundraising campaign. Chair Jung has served as the 24th and 25th President of the Alumni Association and has successfully led Sookmyung’s 100th anniversary celebrations. With these remarkable achievements under her belt, she is leading the fundraising campaign as the first alumna donor.
On Wednesday, October 1, the university held a development fund donation ceremony at the Jang Bongae AI Center to commemorate her contribution in support of the University’s 120th anniversary. The event was attended by President Moon Si-yeon and Vice President Wi Kyeong-woo, along with members of the University’s executive leadership, including Lee Hyung-jin, Sookmyung Director for External Cooperation; Yang Seung-chan, Director of Academic Affairs; Shin Ji-young, Director of the Research & Business Development Foundation; Lee Sang-il, Director of General Affairs and Management; Lee Ho-seop, Director of Admissions; Jeong Hye-young, Dean of Student Affairs; Son Seo-hui, Director of the Career Development; and Kim Byeong-gyu, Director of Digital Information Innovation.
The event also saw participation from the representatives from the Alumni Association, including President Kim Kyung-hee, Vice Presidents Son Kyung-sook, Lee Mi-hwa, and Hwang Hak-yeon, and Secretary General Director Kim Hye-kyung. Alumni chapter presidents from individual colleges, including Hong Eun-jin (College of Liberal Art), Noh Yoo-jin (College of Social Sciences), Han Sang-mi (College of Law), and Ok Yoo-bin (College of Engineering).
President Moon Si-yeon stated, “Today’s development fund goes beyond a simple donation. It is a seed of hope for future generations and a steadfast foundation for preparing the next major leap forward for Sookmyung. At this pivotal moment, our university approaches its 120th anniversary and prepares for its third founding era, and Chair Jeong’s meaningful contribution will serve as a guiding light for Sookmyung’s future vision.”

Chair Jeong, a 1966 graduate of the Department of English Language and Literature, was appointed in June as Chair of the Sookmyung Development Committee for the 120th Anniversary Commemorative Project. Beginning with a KRW 30 million donation in 1995 through the “Repay Tuition” campaign, she has continued to make generous contributions over the years, including support for the construction of the Alumni Hall. Including the latest donation, her contributions now amount to a total of KRW 2 billion.
As the 24th and 25th President of the Alumni Association, Chair Jeong also united the Sookmyung community and played a leading role in organizing the University’s 100th anniversary celebrations, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to institutional development. On the sixth floor of the Centennial Memorial Hall, a lecture room named the “Jeong Choon-hee and Lee Geon-soo Lecture Room” honors Chair Jeong and her spouse, Lee Geon-soo, President of Dongah Elecomm.
Chair Jeong commented, “The legacy of the 120th anniversary is built upon the dedication of alumni and the challenges embraced by younger generations. The circumstances may be challenging, but this is a time for the Sookmyung community to come together and contribute to the university’s development.”
With the 120th anniversary of the school’s foundation ahead, Sookmyung Women’s University is pushing for the “120th Anniversary Sookmyung Development Fundraising Campaign.” The university is implementing various programs to lower barriers to contributions and encourage greater participation from faculty, school employees, and other members in and out of the school. These programs include the Proud Sookmyung 120 Campaign, Alumni Lecture Room Campaign, Alumni’s Sookmyung Love Campaign, and New Noonsongi Bench Campaign. The Office of Communication & PR commented, “This campaign will be the building blocks for the sustainable development of Sookmyung, while also embedding faith and pride in our students’ minds regarding the educational value of our university.”
