The Sookmyung Women’s University Museum has been selected as an outstanding institution in the 2025 University Museum Promotion Support Program for its special exhibition, “Times of Fiber: Carrying Tradition and Connecting the Future.”
The exhibition, which explores significant textile artifacts and textile art from East Asia spanning antiquity to the modern era, was held in three parts beginning in May, 2025 at the Sookmyung Women’s University Museum, the Chung Young Yang Embroidery Museum, and the Moon Shin Museum. A total of 265 artifacts and works were displayed, illustrating both the historical development of textiles and their future trajectories.
In conjunction with the special exhibition, the Sookmyung Women’s University Museum organized a total of 91 related programs, including an online exhibition, traveling exhibitions, hands-on educational activities, competitions, and docent-led tours. These programs attracted approximately 17,000 visitors. The exhibition’s third theme, “Time of Fiber: Creating the Future through Upcycling”, was also presented for two months starting in September, 2025 at the Seoul Upcycling Plaza.

The award ceremony took place on December 18 (Thu) at the Seoul National University Museum in Seoul, as part of the 2025 Government-Funded Program Forum and Performance Presentation hosted by the Korean Association of University Museums.
Meanwhile, the University Museum Promotion Support Program, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Association of University Museums, aims to enhance the status of university museums and expand cultural engagement opportunities for local communities by supporting exhibitions that leverage universities’ cultural and research resources. This year’s program operated under the theme, “University Museums as Cultural Powerhouses Opening Future Values,” offering a range of exhibitions and educational programs.
