Sookmyung Women’s University has launched the world’s first college dedicated to Hallyu (Korean Wave), the Hallyu International College, in celebration of its 120th anniversary. The university presented a vision to expand Hallyu into a future-oriented platform that integrates education, industry, technology, and global networks. According to the university, the inauguration ceremony was held on March 19 at the Centennial Hall on its campus in Yongsan, Seoul.
The Hallyu International College, designed exclusively for international students, consists of two divisions: the Global Convergence Studies Division, which aims to cultivate female leaders in global business, and the Hallyu International Studies Division, which specializes in K-culture education. The college supports students’ adaptation to life in Korea through intensive Korean language training and close academic mentoring.
The institution aspires to serve as a global hub for nurturing Hallyu talent, where students from around the world gather to learn about Korean culture, industry, technology, and future values, and then disseminate them globally. It plans to cover all aspects of Hallyu—including K-pop, K-dramas, K-beauty, K-food, and K-content—while presenting a next-generation educational model that integrates artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, and creative industries.
Dean Moon Hyung-nam, who also serves as president of the Korea AI Education Association and the Society for Sustainable Science, stated that the college aims to become a platform where global female talents passionate about Hallyu can study, grow, and connect the world.

The Hallyu International College is noteworthy as the first specialized college of its kind, combining the university’s long-standing global education capabilities with the momentum of the Hallyu era.
President Moon Si-yeun, in a vision statement, emphasized that Sookmyung Women’s University will grow into a leading institution for Hallyu education in Korea and set global standards in the field. She added that, as the university embarks on a bold new chapter toward its next 120 years, the Hallyu International College will stand at the center of this vision.
