A special performance of the KBS TV Open Concert, designed to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Sookmyung Women’s University, was held successfully on March 24 at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. The event brought together students, alumni, and faculty members—collectively known as the Sookmyung community—for a meaningful occasion of connection through music. Even before the performance began, long lines formed at the ticket exchange area in front of KBS Hall, reflecting the excitement of the audience. Students eagerly awaited the concert, taking commemorative photos with their tickets and wristbands, while many also visited the snowflake-themed photo zone inside the venue.

Distinguished guests in attendance included President Moon Si-yeun of Sookmyung Women’s University, Chairman Park In-guk of the Sookmyung Foundation, and other prominent figures suc as alumni association leaders and international diplomats, including the ambassadors of Belgium, the Philippines, and Norway to Korea. Approximately 1,100 members of the Sookmyung community—undergraduate and graduate students, international students, alumni, and faculty—participated in the event. The concert was hosted by KBS announcer Ga Ae-ran, herself a Sookmyung alumna.

In her opening remarks, President Moon described the event as “a special occasion where the spirit of open music, connecting generations and time, meets the history of Sookmyung,” adding that the university community would continue to develop its traditions and values with openness as it moves toward its next century.

Sookmyung Development Committee Chair Chung Chun-hee also emphasized that the 120-year history of the university has been shaped by the dedication of past generations and the challenges embraced by alumni and students, expressing hope that the concert would serve as a meaningful opportunity to share pride in their alma mater.

The opening stage featured the Sookmyung Gayageum Orchestra—the first gayageum zither orchestra in Korea composed of university alumni—alongside a b-boy performance, adding symbolic significance to the anniversary celebration. This was followed by performances from a diverse lineup of artists, including Kim Yeon-ja, Son Tae-jin, Alpha Drive One, Jung In, Cho Jung-chi, Ra.D, Jung Joon-il, Forestella, and HolyBang. <View Artists’ Congratulatory Messages ↗>

Sookmyung Women’s University plans to continue its 120th anniversary celebrations with a series of events, including an official commemorative ceremony on May 20, a pre-event festival on May 21, as well as academic conferences, exhibitions, concerts, and a marathon.

Communications Team of the Office of External Affairs, which organized the event, stated that the concert was designed to bring together members of the Sookmyung community and to share the university’s history more broadly through broadcast media. They added that the enthusiastic participation of attendees made the event a truly memorable occasion.
