Sookmyung Women's University has launched “SnowChat,” a platform that allows members of the university community to use generative AI services free of charge.
SnowChat is a generative AI platform that integrates large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude into a single service. The platform officially opened in April after rebranding the university’s previously piloted “AI FactChat” service to better align with the university’s brand identity. Sookmyung Women’s University explained, “Following the successful completion of the pilot operation, both the number of users and the platform’s usage rate have been rapidly increasing.”
Supported by the University Innovation Support Project, SnowChat was designed to enable Sookmyung community members — including students, faculty, and researchers — to broadly utilize AI across learning, research, and administrative work. Eligible users include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff members, course instructors, and researchers. Each user is provided with 5,000 credits per month. Credits are deducted depending on the AI model and usage volume, and they are reset on the first day of every month.
SnowChat offers several key functions, including “Chat,” which allows users to freely interact with AI, “Studio,” where users can create customized chatbots, and
“Store,” where chatbots can be shared with others. A distinguishing feature of the platform is that it not only supports basic AI usage but also enables users to create and share AI-based content. SnowChat can be accessed through the “AI SnowChat” menu under the “Major Site Links” section of the university’s Sookmyung portal system.
The university plans to focus during the first semester on expanding the service and broadening user experience, while gradually increasing AI-integrated courses connected to the curriculum during the second semester. In collaboration with the student leadership group ‘It's You’, the university is also promoting the platform through various channels to encourage active use.
A university official stated, “SnowChat will become a key infrastructure platform for strengthening AI literacy among university members and accelerating the digital transformation of the educational environment.”
