Our university has opened the “Jung Young-ja Hall”, which installed the works of world-renowned contemporary artist Richard Woods. In honor of the will of alumna who contributed to the development of the university, it plans to provide students with a rest area full of art. Our university held a naming ceremony for Jung Young-ja Hall at 2 p.m. on June 26 (Monday) in the lobby of the 2nd Foundation Campus Prime Complex Lobby.
Jung Young-ja Hall was decorated as the school's representative art space by installing works by world-renowned British contemporary artist Richard Woods. This work made Jung Young-ja Hall unique by capturing the color of our university's symbol, blue, and surrounding nature together on a wooden panel printed by the artist himself.
Richard Woods, who is based in London, England, is an artist who adds a new aesthetic by attaching a pattern he designed to existing buildings using traditional woodblock technology. In Korea, it is well known that he participated in the Park Roche project, which was used as accommodation for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Recently, he has joined hands with furniture company “Casamia” to introduce collaborative products.
Our university named this space “Jung Young-ja Hall” in honor of the will of alumna Jung Young-ja, who donated more than 2.5 billion won to their alma mater and took the lead in developing the school and fostering junior talents. It is expected that students will take a rest at Jung Young-ja Hall, where the space itself is a work of art, and gain rich artistic inspiration. It will also be used for various purposes, such as exhibitions in the future.
At the event, about 60 people attended the naming ceremony, including President Jang Yoon-geum, alumna Jung Young-ja, and the family of Jung. The naming ceremony was held in the order of the greeting of President Jang and alumna Jung; the violin performance of alumna Jung’s family; the string quartet performance of students from the College of Music; the unveiling ceremony; the tape cutting ceremony.
President Jang Yoon-geum said, “University often exhibits art works, but it is a new attempt to permanently install works of world-class artists in the student space,” and added, “Thank you for Jung again for your great love for the development of your alma mater, and we will make Jung Young-ja Hall a representative art space of Sookmyung Women's University.”

Jung Young-ja, an alumna of our university who graduated from the Department of Pharmacy in 1965, donated more than 2.5 billion won by running the “Jongoh Pharmacy.” Prior to the opening of the Jung Young-ja Hall, our university named the College of Pharmacy lecture room 201 and 301 as “Jung Young-ja Lecture Room” and “Jung Young-ja Good Pharmacy Practice Laboratory,” respectively.
