Sookmyung Global Language Institute received the Sejong the Great Award (President of the National Institute of Korean Language Award), a group award, at the 2026 Korea Letter-Writing Contest organized by the Korea Post. Four international students enrolled in the institute’s regular Korean language program also received individual awards.

Held in May and June under the theme “A Letter to Cheer You Up for Your New Beginning [K-Cheer Up],” the contest invited foreign nationals living in Korea and abroad to submit handwritten letters. A total of 11,614 entries were submitted across the elementary, middle and high school, and general divisions.

In the individual category, Ines DE JESUS SOARES INES from Timor-Leste received the Uri Award (President of the National Institute of Korean Language Award), while ERDENEBAYAR TUMENKHUSLEN (Level 3) from Mongolia received the Daehan Award (President of the Korea Post Human Resources Development Institute Award). HOANG THI THUY LINH (Level 2) from Vietnam and SOE THIRI MON (Level 2) from Myanmar each received the Manse Award (President of the Korea Letter Family Association Award).

The international students, including Ines, who completed the spring semester at Sookmyung Global Language Institute, expressed their heartfelt experiences of life in Korea through sincere handwritten letters in Korean.

ERDENEBAYAR TUMENKHUSLEN, who received the Daehan Award, said, “I wrote the letter to my grandfather, who was the first person I wanted to share this story with. I was truly surprised and happy when I heard that I had won an award. I am sincerely grateful to my teachers and Sookmyung Global Language Institute for giving me this valuable opportunity and teaching me how to express myself through writing.”

Kim Kyung-ryeong, Director of Sookmyung Global Language Institute, said, “It is especially meaningful that the heartfelt letters written in Korean by students from around the world who study together at our institute have been recognized with awards. We will continue to provide quality education and support so that our international students can deepen their understanding of the Korean language and culture.”

Meanwhile, more than 700 students from 13 countries are currently studying the Korean language and culture at Sookmyung Global Language Institute.
